If anyone has experienced an injustice on their child support payments, they may find encouragement in the fact that they are not the only ones. Women are encouraged by other women who have found a gold rush and attorneys who seek their own monetary gains . Judicial systems that are supposed to do what is best for the children have no problem with setting unobtainable goals for fathers who want to pay what is fair but are forced into bankruptcy by having to disregard legitimate bills in order to try to pay what the mother of their childrens attorney thinks is fair. I know that that is a run-on sentence and that is just like what it has been for me. One thing after another. Bad news after bad news.
If a father complains about the payments he is imediately labeled a dead beat dad and believe me, there are many moms who must have planned this course of events for years. She found out she didn't have to put up with his manly bull$^^%* because Mary Jo took Jimbo for everything she will ever need. All she really ever needed was a sperm donor and a meal ticket. She goes to see Mary Jo's attorney and starts systematically dismantling Jimbo's bank account.
When whe has enough money to pay Mary Jo's attorney bill, Jimbo finds out that he is on the verge of bankruptcy. He doesn't know why because all he ever does is work. Mary Jo pays all the bills. If he is smart enough not to blow his cool and knock the crap out of Mary Jo, he leaves to keep that from happening and finds out that his account has been closed at the bank and that Mary Jo's account has him blocked out.
He gets a lawyer who (unbknownst to Jimbo) plays golf with Mary Jo's attorney. On the golf course, Jimbo's doom is sealed. Both attorney's know that Jimbo is screwed anyways so they might as well get what they can out of the deal. It's all OK because they both make considerable contributions to the charity of their choice. On the seventh tee-box they run into none other than Judge Jones. There is no need to fill him in on the plan because he used to be an attorney himself. He knows the score. All he has to do is what he thinks best. The system does the rest. Both sides will be paying attorney fees for years to come.
Poor Jimbo. He is self employed as a sole proprietor. He doesn't pay himself a salary. Basically everything he makes goes to pay bills and Mary Jo always took care of that. He has a lawn care business and he has a lot of contract labor and equipment costs. His child support is based on his gross income which is $120,000 per year. It doesn't matter than when all the bills are paid he is left with less than $15,000. For three children he will be paying $260 per week!
He can do math well enough to figure out that bankruptcy is just a matter of time. He decides to just work that much harder and not complain because that's just what 'good ole boys' do. Besides, he has good credit and a strong business. He doesn't know that Mary Jo is telling everyone who has a lawn and will listen what a sorry son of a ^**(^(* that Jimbo really is.
Jimbo sees the faces of the people that he knows and loves looking at him a little differently now. He wakes up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat because of the shattered dreams that will soon turn into real life nightmares. By the time the nightmares become true, his children don't speak to him anymore.
